My Passion Is Food…..Deal With It!

I love food. No! You don’t understand. I mean I really love food. I daydream about food ( I haven’t gotten to having actual dreams yet.) Sometimes my dinner plans are what get me through the day. I think three days in advance about what I am going to eat. Nowdays they call it meal-prep. I like that. It sounds very contemporary. Almost every excursion, outing, or adventure starts with “what are we going to eat?” When I’m having a Great day I love to eat. When I’m having a horrible day I need to eat. I like hanging around people who are connoisseurs of food. I’m very suspicious of anybody who is not a foodie. They go in the same box as people who don’t like animals. You might be cool but you have been flagged. Food is a major part of my life and I feel good about it.

This world can be depressing and anything that can consistently make you smile needs to be in heavy rotation. There are too many things that are going to take the wind out of your sails today to not have a big joker to fight back with. Ruff night? I look forward to my morning latte and I get fancy with it. I plan my lunch and how I am going to snack way in advance. If I make it to work and get clocked in and situated I celebrate with a delicious snack. I work hard and try to ignore that *&^% in the cubicle next to me because lunch (which often is a repeat of last nights dinner) is calling my name. Then I have to pick something scrumptious for my evening snack because I am usually struggling at that point and the only thing that is going to keep me from drop-kicking my computer is my dinner plans. One of the biggest decisions of my day is my “wind down”, “chill-out”, “I survived” night treat which can be dessert or not. Now, if I put that much into an average Tuesday can you imagine the planning that goes into a trip.

Here is the trick. You can’t eat and enjoy all of this wonderful cuisine if you are dead. It just doesn’t work. Food actually isn’t enjoyable when you are sick. It is hard to get to a decent street taco if you can’t walk down the street. That taco is going to be crap when you get home. I’m sorry, but we are going to have to do some tweeking to this whole food bonanza. I love my morning latte and I will not be denied. However, most days that is my only cup of coffee. Sometimes my morning snack is Strawberry Frosted Pop-tarts (should be a food group) but if my weight is off I might go with some grapes for a few days. There is a burger joint down the street that does the pimento cheese bacon burger thing with sweet potatoe fries. OMG! However, if my last set of labs is off then this week might have to be salad with a light vinegarette. Yes, I am very health concious but I am in no way a health nut. I also might have a drink when I get home and we won’t discuss when I get with my friends from the past. It can get ugly. However, when my doctor says chill, I chill. I also grew up. I have mastered social drinking. My getting drunk days are gone. It’s just not worth what it will do to your body. I also love sweet tea. I know that to most people with sense it is disgusting but it is crack to me. Some days if I didn’t have a drink I might have sweet tea with my dinner. I know. Horrible! But most people didn’t notice that I drank nothing but water all day since my morning latte.

How do you love food but stay healthy at the same time? I really get into my smoothie recipes. Juicing is an art form. I enjoy healthy cooking just as much as I enjoy Southern butter and cheese. I like having friends and family who also are into healthy living. They give great recipe ideas and it is easy to set up dinner dates. They also don’t talk junk when I break out the kale chips. Don’t get it twisted. This is GeminiMusing you are talking to. I have family and friends who are all about the beer and wings, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, scotch and a cigar, or just plain choc-o-holics (my favorite people in the whole world.) And when I am with them I thoroughly enjoy myself. I’m just going to be a food saint the rest of the week until I get myself back together. I love health nuts and I get it. I have just decided that I would like to find the balance where you stay healthy but also enjoy living. And food is a Spectacular way to enjoy life. Let’s grab lunch!
